Talking to God | Hear God Talk to You
God wants to communicate with you. That is why you are reading this book. It is no accident that you are here. This is a special moment in time. God has been seeking you for a long time. God wants to walk beside you everyday as your closest friend.
You know how to pray, how to ask God for things, but you don’t know how to listen for God to talk back. If God were to speak to you, you wouldn’t know who it was. God is speaking to you now, and if you listen to yourself you know it. You thought it was your idea to pick up this book. But it was not your idea; it was God’s idea. God wants you to read this.
You can put the book down if you want to. That’s what evil wants you to do. Evil doesn’t want you to get close to God. Evil wants you isolated from everybody. Evil wants you to think that there is no God, or if there is one, God is mad at you. But if God were mad at you, you wouldn’t be feeling good right now, that exciting, thrilling feeling. That is God encouraging you to read on.
You have probably sought God before in a book, a church, or a religion, but you may have ended up feeling empty. God seemed to elude you. God didn’t seem interested in you, or was too distant, so you gave up. But still you could feel God from time to time--that gentle little knock on your heart. God is going to talk to you, and when He does, you will never be the same again.
To believe in God, you must have your own experience with God. John Keats said, "Nothing ever becomes real till it is experienced." The best part of all this is that God is very close to you. A part of God lives inside of you. You are not God, and never will be, but God can and will contact you inside your own thinking. If you want to see one place where God lives, go look in the mirror. God lives inside of you. He has been there all along. You do not have to look for God in someone else. God is much bigger than that. Look for God inside of you.
As you read this, you feel a gentle nudge. God wants you to feel it. This knock is so gentle that it is almost beyond human perception. God is as real as you are. God is a person who loves you more than anyone else possibly could. God wants to whisper into your soul and tell you that He loves you.
God wants to communicate with you, but you have been too busy. You turn away unknowingly from God's voice. You probably have been concentrating on the busy aspects of your life, and by doing that, you have been unknowingly ignoring God’s voice in your head. But God has been talking anyway, encouraging you, supporting you, educating you, but you probably have not been listening to God as much as you could.
I am not the only one who thinks God is talking. God talks to people every day. You may have sought God in another person, a priest, rabbi or holy person, but that’s not going to work because God wants an intimate relationship with you. Richard Foster states, "The history of religion is the story of an almost desperate scramble to have a king, a mediator, a priest, a pastor, a go-between. In this way we do not need to go to God ourselves. Such an approach saves us from the need to change, for to be in the presence of God is to change" (Foster 1988).
"There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful than that of a continual conversation with God" (Brother Lawrence 1963, p. 43). Richard Foster states, "His voice is not hard to hear, His vocabulary not hard to understand" (Foster 1988, p. 3).
“Elijah was hiding in a cave when the Lord said, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave" (1 Kings 9:13).
God has a still small voice, a gentle whisper inside your mind.
"I believe one of the most valuable lessons we can ever learn is how to listen to God. In the midst of our complex and hectic lives, nothing is more urgent, nothing more necessary, nothing more rewarding than hearing what God has to say. Only a few minutes of sitting before God who speaks can transform a life, metamorphose a mind, and reset purpose and direction for eternity" (Charles Stanley 1985, p. 161).
Two women who wish to remain anonymous wrote down what God said to them everyday. One of their conversations reads, “I lead you. The way is clear. Go forward unafraid. I am beside you. Listen, listen, listen to My Voice. My Hand is controlling all” (God Calling 1978).
Can’t you feel God reaching out for you, moving you forward, word after word, sentence by sentence? If you want to communicate with God, be willing to keep reading, keep trying, and keep seeking. Try to be open-minded and willing to give God a chance. If you have doubts—good that means that you are being honest. Doubts are good. They mean you think. God can handle your doubts. When God speaks to you, you will know who it is there will be no doubt. But after the experience, the doubt will be back, trying to separate you from God. That is the voice of evil. Evil doesn’t want you to communicate with God, because once you do, you are going to be free from the lies.
Imagine the God who knows everything about the past and the future, who knows everything about everyone, the God who has all the power, the God who can do anything. Imagine this God talking to you, encouraging you, supporting you, and educating you.
Aren't you excited to find out what God has to say to you?
This is a communication that God left for you with me.
God said, “I want the world to know how much I love all things. I am the Lord God and I created all. I am going to do something to show the world I exist. I am going to speak to the people. My people must learn how to hear my voice. I yearn for deep communion with all people. I will not remain quiet. Listen to me. I have a plan for each of you, a plan that will bring you to the zenith of your creation. You can only reach this pinnacle of existence with my plan. I love you so much that I give you the choice to reject me. This rejection causes me great pain. I suffer for my children. A great wind is coming. It begins with the whisper of my voice. This wind will sweep the earth and consume the universe with love. I, the Lord God, am coming. I will strike my chord in every heart. I have been doing this since the beginning, but people have not listened. Even good people do not listen to me. People fill the churches and sing songs, and listen to each other. I tell you, the time is here to listen to the Lord your God. If you do not, you will be isolated from me for all time. I will leave you to the darkness. You give me no alternative. In your heart, as you perceive this message, you know it is I. You cannot deny your God, any more than you can deny yourself. Listen to me. I am speaking, even now, to your heart."
Because of God’s love, you do not have to live in pain anymore. All you have to do is ask God to come into your life and help you. God will free you from your sin and fill you so full of love that it will overwhelm you and flow to others. You are God’s child, His perfect work of art. God wants you to be happy, joyous and free just like any parent would. Did you ever create something that you were pleased with a painting, poem, story, or song that you wanted to show proudly to the world? That’s how God feels about you.
"Don't you think I want them all to hear? If they listen, they will hear. If they hear, they will believe."

Test the Communication
There are several ways to confirm that the communications come from God. This is called testing the spirits. Compare the communication with scripture. God will never disagree with himself, and he has spoken in the Bible. Check out the communication with other believers. Some have the gift of discernment. A prayer group or clergy person may be willing to help. If you need a direct test of the communication open the bible randomly and read where ever your eye hits on the page. Three things will be revealed at some point you as you read:
1. A feeling of peace.
2. The hurdle or hurdles between you and God.
3. The action you can take today to begin your new spiritual journey.
Discipline
Discipline yourself to communicate with God every day. Things are not going to get right in your life until you spend quality time with God. Get a pad of paper and a pen and put it beside your bed. Every morning ask God, "God, what do you have to say to me today." Put the pen to the paper. Words will come, and when they do, write them down. It might be a word or two, a sentence or two, or a page or two. You will know when the communication is done. It is your responsibility to carry out what God tells you to do that day. This is the way to be happy, joyous and free.
Discover the Purpose For Your Life
As you continue your communications with God a time will come when he will tell you the plan for your life. This plan will awaken the seed completely and you will be given great power to carry the plan out. This plan will seem so fantastic that you will know that you are incapable of doing it. Remember, if you use God's power, you can do anything. With God all things are possible. All you have to do is take one step at a time and God will make the plan come true.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)
